Otori Week XXI: Written in the Stars (Moon Sign Design Contest)

Look up at the Loathing sky... do you see something new?

For years, adventurers have charted their destinies under the signs of the Mongoose, the Wallaby, the Vole, and the rest of the classic zodiac (plus the occasional Bad Moon). But the cosmos of the Kingdom is vast and ever expanding. For this event, we want you to play astronomer and discover something entirely new in the night sky.

The Challenge

Your task is to invent a brand-new Moon Sign for the Kingdom of Loathing.

We want to know what this constellation looks like, what kind of adventurers are born under it, and exactly how it changes the game when you ascend into it.

Submission Guidelines

To enter, reply to this thread with your complete Moon Sign pitch or send a K-Mail to Psyko (#353702). Your entry must include the following details:

  • The Name & Theme: What is your sign called, and what is its general vibe?
  • The Constellation Artwork: Show us what it looks like in the sky! This can be an ASCII art masterpiece, a terrible MS Paint doodle, or anything in between. We are judging the concept, so do not stress if you aren't a master artist.
  • The Unlocked Zone: Classic moon signs unlock specific zones (like Little Canadia, the Gnomish Mine, or the Degrassi Knoll). What new zone does your sign unlock, and what impact does that have on an ascension?
  • The Perks & Boosts: What passive stats does this sign grant? Does it give access to a unique new skill, or perhaps boost an existing one?

Judging & Scoring

We will be evaluating your astrological discoveries based entirely on creativity. We are looking for unique themes, hilarious or clever designs, and well thought out gameplay mechanics that would make ascending under your sign a blast.

The astronomers who chart the best new signs will be rewarded with the following celestial bounties:

  • 1st Place: Rock Garden Guide
  • 2nd Place: Shrunken Head in a Duffel Bag
  • 3rd Place: 50,000,000 Meat
